Development Case History: TICOMP S
Fluoropolymer composites are now being used increasingly as engineering
materials for applications in which tribological properties are important.
The overall requirements for a good adhesive wear material is high
transfer film ductility and low coefficient of friction.
Ticomp S is a fluoropolymer composite containing reinforcing filaments
and lubricants which optimise adhesive wear resistance at loads of
up to 4 MPa and surface speeds of 3.2 m/sec.
Ticomp S developed unique advantages over other inorganic and polymer
filled materials.
- Chemical resistance is excellent, closely matching
that of Virgin PTFE
- Service temperature under load can be rated up to 210C depending
on media, loads and speeds. The excellent thermal stability
permits usage in static applications up to 275C continuously
or 300C for
short duration.
- Excellent ductility of the alloy combined with low friction
optimises adhesive wear resistance.
- The constituents of the alloy are FDA compliant.
Ticomp S can be cost effectively used for static and rotary seals
running on softer metal surfaces like stainless steel. Shaft sleeves
for vertical spindle and horizontal centrifugal acid pumps are also
prime applications. Gaskets and wear strips also benefit from the
outstanding properties of Ticomp S
Applications:
- Suitable for use with food stuffs
- Chemical resistance almost equal to virgin PTFE
- High heat and wear resistance
- High ductility and elongation
Typical Products:
- High duty seals
- Low deformation gaskets
- Bearings at up to 240°C
